To be completely honest with you, I am not sure why this song is called what it is… When I was working on it and I came to save it for the first time, it was the title that just sprung up to me, and I typed it out without really thinking about it. So, unless someone has a better reason for the name that they would like to share with me, that explanation will have to do for now…

Eventually I’ll get around to writing about making music on the iPhone (there is a lot to write about…), but for now, here is a little ditty that I put together in about 20 minutes using BeatMaker (USD 19.99 | iTunes link). This is an incredible piece of software that feels like a real PC tool rather than something on your phone. It is essentially a sequencer with a large library of sounds – but it is also really easy to use and put stuff together – highly recommended.
Updated: Forgot to mention that I ran the .wav exported by BeatMaker through some mastering tools at the end to polish up the sound (but only a little!)…

With the launch of the new site I thought I’d better upload a new song no-one’s heard yet. I wish I had something more to say about it, but the name and the meaning are forgotten to me (it might have been nothing of course…).

This is a short interlude piece – much like the work of Thomas Newman of American Beauty fame. Short and to the point.
I wrote this in one take in about 10 minutes. I think next to Ponder, this is probably one of the most beautiful pieces I have written. Many people have said that it is not finished, but I kind of like it that way.
It was originally written as part of a trilogy of pieces. I wrote Autumn Daemons 01, and my cousin Trent wrote Autumn Daemons 02. This one, however, stands above them, alone. I don’t really want to associate it with the previous two versions.

This is a dancier track. No… its not about not getting any – its about not understanding why I’m not getting any…
This track was written on a train from Sydney to Newcastle in about an hour (and polished for a bit longer than that as is usually the case…). Some people have told me you can hear train sounds in it. This is purely coincidental…

Sometimes it can be hard to think that you aren’t just cursed, that things are working against you. At times like these, you might possibly be right…

If we are just animals
How can we do wrong?
How can we be evil?
Why do we need the devil?
Why do we need god?
I wrote this late one night after a long walk. It occurred to me that if we are, as some believe, just animals, then we only obey our instincts.
It must therefore be the instincts that we deny ourselves that make us human…
This song is, in my opinion (and other disagree) probably the best I have ever written, with the possible exception of Autumn Daemons. The song makes a point and does it strongly. It has a great sound. All in all, I think this is the flagship RGS song, which is why its the first song I posted on the new RGS site.
